At our annual members’ conference in 2014, ALN decided to bring together a select part of its client base, together with its members, to discuss the above and more, exploring what sectors and regions in Africa provide the greatest opportunities for foreign investors, while analysing the legal and regulatory implications. The 2014 conference was held in Dubai with the aim that general counsel, investors, developers, financiers, management and company directors would interact, exchange ideas and share notes on matters of great importance in the new African business landscape.

Amyn Mussa is a Partner at ALN Kenya |Anjarwalla & Khanna (A&K). He heads the firm’s Projects and Infrastructure department and co-heads ALN’s Energy and Infrastructure Sector Group. Asif Abdulla started Primefuels as the sole employee in 1996. After graduation he worked in UK for Deloitte and later for Shell companies. In 1999, he moved with his family to Nairobi to grow Primefuels which currently operates in 5 countries in East & Central Africa with over 600 employees. Since 2006, he has lived in Dubai from where he manages the business.
Founder and Director, Lake Turkana Wind Power
Carlo is one of the Founders and Director of Lake Turkana Wind Power Project which aims to provide 310MW of reliable, low cost wind power to the Kenya national grid, equivalent to approximately 15% of the current installed electricity generating capacity. It comprises of 365 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 850kW, and a high voltage substation that will be connected to the national grid through an associated transmission line currently being constructed by the Kenyan Government. Carlo has investments in Kenya in various sectors, including banking, manufacturing, and project management and development.
He has previously worked in various capacities for the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations and the World Food Program, and as director for Africa at Fata European Group, an industrial engineering company based in Turin, Italy. He is fluent in English, Italian, Dutch and French.

Mr G. Jayakrishnan directs Enterprise Singapore’s strategy to develop and strengthen Singapore’s trade and investment linkages with the Middle East, Africa, Central and Eastern Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean. Based in Singapore, he leads the Group’s operations in Singapore, Accra, Dubai, Istanbul, Johannesburg, Mexico City, Moscow, Nairobi, Riyadh and Sao Paulo. Enterprise Singapore is the government agency championing enterprise development and also supports the growth of Singapore as a hub for global trading and startups. Jaya serves as member of the Advisory Board of the Centre for African Studies in Singapore.
In 2015, he was awarded the Public Administration Bronze Medal by the Government of Singapore. He holds a Master’s degree in International Public Policy from the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honours from the National University of Singapore.

His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak joined the Federal Government in 1992 and held a number of government portfolios including Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Minister of Education and Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development.
His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak was also Chancellor of United Arab Emirates University from 1983 to 2013; Chancellor of Higher Colleges of Technology from 1988 to 2013; and President of Zayed University from 1998 to 2013.
His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan received his education at the British Millfield School until the high secondary level before joining Magdalen College at Oxford University-UK.

Kapil is a Director within Standard Chartered’s Middle East & Africa Real Estate team. He is responsible for driving the banks Real Estate franchise expansion across Africa, having written the strategy post joining the Bank in 2011.
Kapil started his career with KPMG Corporate Finance in London, where he was part of the Real Estate M&A advisory team. He subsequently joined an Abu Dhabi based Private Equity fund, where he was responsible for the structuring and executing Real Estate Funds.
Kapil is a graduate of the Cass Business School, London, where he attained a degree in Banking & International Finance.

Karim S. Anjarwalla is the Managing Partner of ALN Kenya | Anjarwalla & Khanna (A&K) and a member of the firm’s Corporate department. Roddy is a director in the corporate group at Anjarwalla & Khanna. He has over 30 years of experience in mergers and acquisitions, private equity, joint ventures and other corporate transactional work. He was previously a partner at Hogan Lovells in London and Hong Kong. Prior to joining Anjarwalla & Khanna in 2013, Roddy headed up Webber Wentzel’s Africa Group and was based in Johannesburg for over 6 years, where he had overall responsibility for developing the firm’s practice on the African Continent (outside South Africa).
Roddy’s practice is pan-African and over the last ten years has been involved in investments and transactional deals in over thirty African countries.
